Cameroon: From a distance – See the Police laboratory investigating Bishop Bala’s death

Bishop Bala’s death
The images of the laboratory of the scientific   investigation unit  of the Cameroonian police in Yaoundé gives an idea of what to expect from any police investigation done in this building . The building is not only dilapidated but not fit for the purpose, sadly it is the best Yaoundé can provide since independence on 1 January 1960  from France. The murdered bishop had serious findings on pedophilia and a priest who helped in his findings had just been murdered 2 weeks prior. Shortly before the bishop’s murder, he had sent his findings to the Vatican through the pope’s ambassador. Eyebrows were raised when the pope’s ambassador was suspiciously transferred just days after the murder.

The said police laboratory which is currently being used in the investigation of the death of the Bishop of Bafia is located opposite the Pharmacie Soleil towards the Yaounde central market .
From the quality of buildings, one can already imagine the kind of results to expect foul play. Reptiles living in the grass  can easily enter at will. In any case access into this building is restricted. On the building wall it is written in bold red FORBIDDEN TO ENTER PLEASE.
Last Friday June 3, 2017, the corpse of the Bishop of Bafia was found at the Sanaga river after 3 days of searching following his disappearance and a mysterious note indicating he was in the waters.
Cameroon declared investigations have opened into the case. The Gendarmerie and the police are all probing into the Bishop’s unusual death which has left everyone shocked and the faithful disheartened.
As the story unfolded, the Bishop’s vehicle was found on the bridge of the  Sanaga river (at Ebebda) some 80 kms from the nations capital -Yaounde, packed at the side. A note on the car seat read in French “ Je suis dans l’eau” meaning he was in the river. Immediately interpreted by those who found it, he had committed suicide. The car with registration number CE 9503V was found at about midday, hours after prelate of the Bafia parish noticed his disappearance and were alarmed..
The Bishop of Douala and President of the national episcopal conference, His lordship Samuel Kleda issued a communique announcing Bishop Bala’s disappearance on Wednesday May 31. The same communique said his car was found at the bridge and the search for his corps was on.

After three days of futile search, a Malian fisherman found the corps in the river being dragged along by the waters to Monatele. He reported to the rescue team which finally drew the body out of the waters at midday that Friday.
Jean Marie Benoit Bala’s corps was identified, his genital removed,an arm  and a leg broken, shoes worn on opposite direction, stomach still not floated with water. He was taken to the Yaounde General hospital mortuary. An autopsy revealed murder and the police and Gendarmerie have opened investigations while the court of Bafia will handle the case.
