Mandy Teefey, who is none other than Selena Gomez’s mother opened up about her 2011 miscarriage, paying tribute to the daughter she lost. Teefey took to social media yesterday to thank her followers that made sure to take the time and remember Scarlett.
The mother also posted a few throwback pics, including one of a younger Selena putting her hand on her mom’s baby bump, as well as an even older one of Mandy holding baby Gomez in her arms.
‘Thank you to all the fans who honored our Scarlett yesterday. Dec 17 will never be the same, but we celebrate her by writing letters on red balloons and releasing them,’ Teefey wrote.
She also made sure to note that Monday was also the day filming for season two of her and Selena’s Netflix show, 13 Reasons Why wrapped up, stating that Scarlett was definitely there with them in spirit.
Finally, she gave a shout-out to her hubby, Brian, and their daughter Gracie, 4.
‘A mom’s love for their children is fierce. Family’s what matters, blood or not, #family13 made me smile and feel loved when needed and they did not know. Then, I came home to Gracie and Brian to send our love to Scarlett. Fans, I want you to know that you’re family because I’ve a huge family and you are the only ones who remember! XO forever,’ she added.
At the L.A. premiere of 13 Reasons Why, the producer previously shared the reason why the show’s theme hit so close to home.

‘I was a teen mother with Selena and was judged for that, even by my counselors and my teachers. My neighborhood was a really rough neighborhood … gangs. With all of that, and when I got pregnant, I think that is what triggered, because I was like, ‘OK, I have another person depending on me. I got to get straight.’ I was like, ‘I am not going to let her have the upbringing I did.’ I kind of kept powering through,’ the woman explained.
